BALGA AGM 2024

We had our Annual General Meeting on January 2024 at the Community Centre in Baldock. Along with the formal business, we heard reports from various committee members about the work we completed last year.

The winners of the Best Kept Allotment Competition were awarded their certificate and trophy by Counsellor Muir. Please see the pictures below of the tenants receiving their certificate, trophy and gift voucher for the Members’ Shop.

Terry and Melody – Best Newcomer at North Road

Mick Camp, Alison Gentle, Jon Jones and Phil Charsley were all re-elected onto the Committee. We welcome Ian Rees and Sarah Bassett who were voted onto the Committee too.

Despite the problems we’ve had with the lock at North Road, it was agreed by those present from the North Road site that the lock on the gate should not be replaced for the time being.

Membership fees would be increased from £6 to £7 for 2024/25. Allotment rents would stay the same.

BALGA had received over £2,000 from the North Herts Lottery. This would be used to provide solar security lighting for the sites and a box for food bank donations at North Road.

An update was given on the progress of bringing back in to use 30 half-plots at the North Road site.BALGA had been liaising with Urban & Civic on the provision of allotments and expanding the facilities at the current sites as part of the expansion of Baldock.

The Committee was given the go ahead to look into changing BALGA from an unincorporated association to a co-operative. There will be more information on this soon.

We would like to thank everyone who attended the AGM, and we look forward to sharing our progress this year.

AGM 2024

Our BALGA Annual General Meeting will be held at 7.30pm on Monday 22nd January 2024 at the Baldock Community Centre in Simpsons Drive. Expect to receive copies of the agenda, minutes of 2023 AGM and other reports sent out at the very beginning of January by email or by paper delivery to those not on email. The meeting is your opportunity to hear more about your Association and all that is being done on your behalf. There will be presentations made to the winners of the Best Kept Allotment Competition 2023. There will be a pay bar and a raffle so do your best to come along and hear more. Mick

Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2023 Reminder

Remember, we have our annual general meeting on Monday 23 January, at 7.30 pm at Baldock Community Centre, Simpsons Drive, which is off the High Street. Please come along if you can to support us and hear more of what is being done by your Committee on your behalf. Please bring your membership card so that it can be validated to show that you have paid, if that has not already been done. If you are unable to attend in person please consider obtaining by email a Proxy Voting Form to cast your votes which must be done at least 3 hours before the start of the meeting.

Councillor Muir will present awards for the Best Kept Allotment Competition. Also, meeting your committee and other members will be a great opportunity. We hope to see you there.

BALGA AGM 2023

This is the time of year when we plan for and announce the BALGA Annual General Meeting (AGM), which will be held on Monday 23^rd January 2023 at Baldock Community Centre in Simpsons Drive beginning at 7.30pm. Doors will open at 7pm with a pay bar available and a raffle. Some packets of pea and bean seeds from the Shop will also be on sale. This is your opportunity to come together and hear more about the work carried out by your Committee on behalf of you all and your Association over the past year, to participate in any discussions and to raise any issue you consider relevant under Any Other Business (AOB), subject to the notice period given on the attached Agenda. The meeting will start with presentations to the winners of the 2022 Best Kept Allotment competition and there will also be an illustrated explanation on our plans to expand the North Road site. We greatly value your support and appreciate any positive suggestions or comments you care to make, so please do make every effort to attend if you can, especially newer members. It is your opportunity to meet fellow members and your Committee. For those unable to attend in person, under our amended Constitution, a Proxy Voting Form is now available from General Secretary Phil Charsley to be returned ideally one day before the meeting but certainly by three hours before, i.e. 4.30pm on 23^rd January. If another member for whom we have no recorded email address lives at the same postal address as a member receiving the AGM reports, please share them with that member to save paper and printing. Those members not on email will still receive a paper copy of this notice and the meeting Agenda by post or hand delivery. Paper copies of the reports will not be available at the AGM for the same reason but extracts will be projected on to a screen for reference during relevant presentations.

It would be helpful if any member not receiving correspondence by email, but who does have an email address which we don’t have recorded, to send that email address to Bob our Database Manager (database@balga-online.co.uk) to avoid the need for future hand delivery. AGM 2022

The BALGA Annual General Meeting will be held on 21 March 2022 at 7.30 pm at the Baldock Community Centre. You should receive your paperwork soon by email (hand delivery for those not on email), which will include reports and a copy of the proposed draft amendments to the BALGA Constitution which must be approved by a majority of members present before it can be adopted. There will be presentations made to the winners of the Best Kept Allotment Competition 2021.

Members are invited to ask questions or make comments on any of the agenda items, but if you wish to raise any item under any other business this must be notified to Phil (gensec@balga-online.co.uk), our General Secretary by 14 March, giving details of that item. The community centre has a bar, so you’ll be able to buy refreshments. We look forward to seeing as many members as possible. It’s a great way to meet your committee and members.

Although we cannot ask you to wear a mask, if you would feel more comfortable wearing a mask, then please do so. It is your preference as to whether you
wish to continue to wear one.
